• If there are any smoke detectors/fire extinguishers;
• The living arrangements are free from potential hazards such as lead paint or asbestos materials;
• If there are properly functioning electrical outlets/appliances and ventilation;
• If there is enough adequate space/bedrooms with appropriate bedding/furnishings; and,
• The cleanliness of the home.

Proving Financial Stability

Financial information is required to determine if an adoptive parent has sufficient resources to provide for their adopted child’s needs both now and in the future. This includes providing:

• Proof of income obtained from various sources such as salary or investments;
• Bank statements showing liquid assets available for use during emergencies or unexpected expenses related to raising a child;
• Any debts that may need to be paid off first before finances are available for adoption costs;
• Copies of tax returns from the previous two years or more if applicable; and,
• Other information that is pertinent to financial stability.
